What if anything is the advantage of using the stock knock sensor. Except of course you don't need to add a new one. Does the ECU let you cut the stock knock sensor, or do you just tap into it?

nah u gotta tap into it. if u cut it out u wil get a CEL. I know from experience. The Stock KS is much more sensitive.

Does anybody know which wire on a 97 GS-R at the ECU is the stock knock sensor? Maybe I'll try it.

ringer, the sensitivity allows how much voltage the J&S senses from the knock sensor.
I'm using the stock KS and I agree that it's very sensitive compared to the J&S KS.
by being more sensitive i didnt mean to say that it was any better. u could just turn up the nob i think and get the same reaction. im not really sure. im just saying that if u do have it connected to the stock KS, u will need to turn the j&s down or it will retard timing all the time. hth

The reason I TAPPED off of the stock sensor, was to save time. I figured why waist the extra time, and risk error. It took like 15min to hook up the unit! Thats why http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

yea, I've had the j&s for a while and it works great. So there is no advantage for someone in my situtation to switch to the stock ks...correct?
Yeah I wouldn't bother. Its not worth the trouble, and time. I would only do it, if your going to install it for the first time.

The install is easy! Especally since I taped in off of the stock Knock Sensor. Yeah I believe the group buy for the dual monitior was pritty expensive. I got the single monitor, and I love it! Once thing I do notice is the response when first punching it in mid gear. I haven't yet had time to dyno tune it, so I dont know the exact gain I got. One thing is for sure. With the safeguard you get (no pun intended) in driving its well worth it! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif
